Chapter 150: Making Up

 Chapter 150: Making Up

"What’s wrong with you? You're so careless—how can you fall over at your age?"

Seeing Daohua fall, Xiao Yeyang immediately forgot about his anger and rushed over to her. He quickly crossed the distance between them in just a few strides.

Daohua had fallen flat on the ground, but she had just managed to sit up with Wang Man’er’s help. "You’re the one to blame! If it weren’t for chasing after you, would I have fallen?" she said, glaring at him.

Xiao Yeyang paused for a moment, mumbling, "I didn’t tell you to chase after me."

"What did you say?"

Seeing Daohua glaring at him with wide eyes, Xiao Yeyang turned his head and rubbed his nose, feeling a little awkward.

"Ah! Miss, your hand is bleeding!"

Wang Man’er suddenly screamed in alarm.

Startled by the cry, Daohua looked down at her hand. She had been too focused on glaring at Xiao Yeyang to notice she had hurt herself.

It was just a small cut on her right palm from the broken flowerpot, about an inch long. She casually said, "It's just a little cut. No need to make such a fuss."

"Let me see!"

Without waiting for her reply, Xiao Yeyang grabbed Daohua's wrist, carefully examining the wound. He furrowed his brow and scolded, "You’re always so careless."

He pulled out his handkerchief and gently began wiping the dirt and dust off her hand.

Daohua watched him in surprise as he carefully tended to her injury, feeling a bit uneasy. After deliberately distancing herself twice, she suddenly felt a little guilty.

"We need to get a physician!"

After cleaning her hand, Xiao Yeyang saw that the wound was still bleeding and immediately ordered Defu to get a physician.

"No need!"

Daohua quickly shook her head, grabbing the handkerchief from his hand and wiping the wound herself. "See? It’s not bleeding anymore. It’s just a small cut. No need to trouble a physician."

"You—"

Seeing how Daohua treated the injury so carelessly, Xiao Yeyang was a little exasperated. "Can't you be more delicate? A young lady can't have scars on her hands."

At this, Daohua scoffed. "Why not? Everyone falls down once in a while. What's wrong with a scar?"

Xiao Yeyang snorted, too lazy to argue with someone so different from himself.

If it had been another girl who had fallen and cut her hand, she would probably have been crying her eyes out. But not her!

Noticing that Daohua was still sitting on the cold ground, Xiao Yeyang stood up, grabbed her arm, and effortlessly lifted her up.

"Even if we're not seeing a physician, you need to put some medicine on it."

Daohua didn’t object to this, nodding her head. "It’s best to put some on." She then turned to Wang Man’er, "Go back to my room and get the medicine. It's in..."

Before she could finish, Defu interrupted, "Miss Yan, I have some medicine with me. No need to go back for it." He took out a small porcelain bottle from his waist pouch.

"You’re so thoughtful, carrying medicine with you," Daohua smiled as she reached for the bottle.

However, to her surprise, Defu handed the bottle directly to Xiao Yeyang.

Daohua's hand hovered awkwardly in the air.

Xiao Yeyang took the bottle, glanced around, and then pointed to a nearby pavilion. "Let’s go sit in the pavilion, and I’ll apply the medicine for you."

"Don’t trouble yourself."

Xiao Yeyang ignored her protest and, without a word, grabbed her and started walking toward the pavilion.

Wang Man’er quickly stepped forward to follow, but Defu stopped her with a hand.

"Why are you stopping me, little eunuch?" Wang Man’er asked, confused.

Defu's mouth twitched slightly. Since he had followed the young prince, it had been a long time since anyone called him "little eunuch."

"Look." Defu pointed toward Yan Zhigao and his group standing at a distance.

"Your master and mistress must be worried about Miss Yan. Why don't you hurry over and let them know she's fine, so they won't worry?"

Wang Man'er turned around and saw her mistress looking anxious in this direction. She nodded quickly and ran off.

Seeing this, Defu froze for a moment. As expected, Miss Yan's maid was so fiery and quick-tempered.

At the pavilion.

Daohua placed her hand on the stone table and hissed in pain.

"What's wrong? Does it hurt? Should we call a physician to take a look?" Xiao Yeyang quickly asked.

Daohua shook her head. "It's not pain, it's cold. The table's too icy."

"Where's your handkerchief?" Xiao Yeyang looked at Daohua.

Daohua lowered her head, looked at herself, and smiled awkwardly. "I forgot to bring one."

"You..." Xiao Yeyang was speechless. He shook his head in disdain, then opened his own handkerchief and spread it on the stone table. "It's a little dirty, but make do with it."

Daohua placed her injured hand on the handkerchief and raised an eyebrow, surprised that this guy was actually quite considerate.

Then, Xiao Yeyang began applying medicine to Daohua's injury. During the process, he accidentally brushed against Daohua's icy fingertips and furrowed his brows. "Why are your hands so cold?"

Daohua didn't think much of it. "It's fine. After applying the medicine, I'll go back to my room and warm up."

"You..."

Xiao Yeyang sighed and, unable to hold back anymore, said, "You're a girl. Could you be a bit more thoughtful? It's the middle of winter, and not only do you not bring a handkerchief, but you also don't have a warming stove?"

Daohua didn't know how to argue back, so she stiffly replied, "Wasn't I just moving flowerpots? Who would carry a warming stove while doing that?"

Xiao Yeyang was speechless. "Does your house not have any maids or servants? Does your mistress really have to do everything herself?" He turned to look at Defu. "I remember there were extra warming stoves in the carriage."

Defu immediately understood. "Yes, I'll have someone get it right away." He turned away and secretly pouted. What extra stoves? They were meant for Miss Yan.

Daohua quickly refused. "There's no need. My family also has warming stoves."

Xiao Yeyang didn't reply but lowered his head to continue applying the medicine.

Seeing this, Daohua didn’t bring up the subject again.

The pavilion grew quiet with just the two of them. Daohua felt a bit of silence and decided to start a conversation. After thinking for a moment, she asked, "Why were you angry that day? Do you know I suffered greatly after you left?"

Xiao Yeyang paused in applying the medicine and fell into silence for a moment. "I didn't know others would misunderstand you."

Daohua smirked, remembering the situation. "You get pretty scary when you're angry. You even scared me that day."

Xiao Yeyang glanced at Daohua. "That day, I thought of my mother and couldn't control my emotions."

"Your mother?" Daohua’s eyes immediately widened in curiosity.

Xiao Yeyang pursed his lips and didn’t respond.

Seeing his silence, Daohua’s mind began to wander. The records of divorce, Xiao Yeyang's mother—could there be some connection? Was that why Xiao Yeyang had such a strong reaction that day?

Xiao Yeyang noticed Daohua's lack of words and looked up to find her eyes darting around. He immediately reached out and flicked her forehead.

"Stop rolling your eyes. It's obvious you're scheming something."

Daohua opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted by Xiao Yeyang. "Don't ask, and don't think too much."

Daohua was speechless. "You really are controlling, even dictating what others think."

Xiao Yeyang didn’t respond, his mood sinking.

Daohua paused. At this moment, the usually high and mighty, rebellious young prince seemed a little pitiful, like a lonely, injured little beast.

Ah, royal children. On the outside, they seemed glorious, but who knew how bittersweet it was on the inside?

"Forget it, what's past is past. But we must set things straight. You can't lose your temper like that in front of others from now on."

Hearing this, Xiao Yeyang looked up at Daohua, the corner of his mouth curving slightly. "Alright."
