Chapter 206: A False Alarm
At the foot of the mountain, Dong Yuanxuan and the others were leisurely walking their horses when they saw Daohua hurriedly pulling Xiao Yeyang down the mountain, looking flustered. They thought something had happened and immediately spurred their horses to approach.
As soon as they got close, Dong Yuanxuan jumped off his horse and asked urgently, "What's going on? Did something happen?"
Daohua let go of Xiao Yeyang's hand, took a few breaths, and then spoke, "We ran into three people with bad intentions halfway up the mountain."
Dong Yuanxuan's face immediately changed, and Su Hongxin quickly ran over as well. If something happened to the young prince, neither of them would have it easy.
"What kind of people?"
Daohua shook her head, her expression serious. "I don’t know, but they were clearly not good people. They pretended to faint to trick us, but luckily, I spotted their scheme. Otherwise, we wouldn't even know what might have happened."
Xiao Yeyang, who was standing nearby, glanced at Daohua, still looking worried and shaken. His expression became complex, hard to explain.
"What? This can’t be tolerated! Scammers have come all the way to Wuhuashan? Where are they? Let’s go up and catch them!" Yan Wenkai rolled up his sleeves, ready to charge up the mountain.
Yan Wenxiu noticed that Xiao Yeyang and Defu didn’t say anything, and his sister was the only one who seemed worried. He thought there might be more to the situation and quickly stopped his younger brother.
Dong Yuanxuan and Su Hongxin noticed that Xiao Yeyang had turned his head to the side, looking somewhat uncomfortable, while Defu’s face was expressionless. They suddenly felt uneasy.
No outsiders should be able to enter the main peak of Wuhuashan. Could it be that they encountered someone staying in the side residence?
Seeing that Dong Yuanxuan and the others didn’t move, Daohua frowned and said, "There are three people on the mountain with ill intentions toward Xiao Yeyang, and you’re not going up to investigate? Luckily, Xiao Yeyang had me with him this time and didn’t get tricked, but what about next time?"
"I think, for safety’s sake, you should investigate thoroughly. Otherwise, it’s hard to be at ease," she continued, then looked at Xiao Yeyang and whispered, "Do you still have the itching pills and sleeping medicine I gave you? If not, I can make some more for you. It’s better to carry them for self-defense."
The royal family is noble, but they’re also very susceptible to being kidnapped or assassinated.
Hearing Daohua’s tone of concern, Xiao Yeyang was touched. She truly worried for his safety. However, thinking of the people she was cautious about, he didn’t know how to respond.
After a long silence, Xiao Yeyang spoke, "Don’t make any more. Also, with Defu around, it’s not so easy for me to get caught."
Daohua didn’t agree. "Have you forgotten how you were tricked out of the capital by human traffickers last time? Defu was probably with you then, but you were still tricked."
Xiao Yeyang didn’t know how to respond. "That time, I was careless."
Daohua said seriously, "Exactly. So this time, if we find suspicious people, we need to investigate thoroughly and eliminate any safety risks while they’re still small. Don’t be careless and think you’re safe. Bad people are everywhere."
After saying that, she looked at Dong Yuanxuan and the others, signaling that they could go up and catch the people now.
Uh...
Dong Yuanxuan and Su Hongxin both looked at Xiao Yeyang.
Faced with Daohua’s seriousness, Xiao Yeyang felt a bit of a headache. "It was just a lady with two maidservants. They can’t harm me. How about we forget it?"
As soon as these words were spoken, Daohua sensed something was off. She looked at Xiao Yeyang with confusion and asked, "Your safety is at stake, and you’re so unconcerned?"
She then rubbed her chin, narrowing her eyes as she scrutinized Xiao Yeyang. The situation had been sudden earlier, and she had only been focused on running, not thinking through the details carefully.
Xiao Yeyang, feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, quickly shifted his eyes away.
Seeing this, Daohua began to think deeply and then shook her head. "This doesn’t seem right."
Yan Wenkai, who had no idea what was going on, immediately asked, "What’s wrong?"
Daohua stroked her chin and said, "First, the acting of those three was too poor. They don’t seem like assassins; it was more like they were sent by monkeys to make a joke."
"Second, the age doesn’t match. If I were to deal with Xiao Yeyang, I’d send a young lady, not a lady. It doesn’t make sense."
"Poof~"
A sudden, poorly timed suppressed laugh rang out.
Daohua glanced disapprovingly at the source of the sound. "Sister Dong, is what I said so funny?"
Dong Yuanyao suppressed her smile, put on a serious expression, and shook her head. "No, not at all." She just found it amusing that Xiao Yeyang and the others were too afraid to respond to the eldest Miss Yan's teasing.
Daohua raised an eyebrow. "Then why are you laughing?"
Dong Yuanyao straightened up and replied seriously, "I was just curious—why is it unreasonable for a lady to do it, but a young miss makes more sense?"
Daohua blurted out, "Of course, it’s because only a young miss could seduce Xiao Yeyang and make him lower his guard!"
"Yan Yi!"
"Little sister!"
Two sharp reprimands rang out at the same time.
Daohua looked up to see her older brother and Xiao Yeyang glaring at her, and she immediately shrank her neck.
Oh no, she’d accidentally said something she shouldn’t have.
"I’m sorry, I won’t say it again next time."
Seeing Daohua backpedal so quickly, Dong Yuanyao leaned against Zhou Jingwan’s shoulder, stifling her laugh. "I must admit, this eldest Miss Yan is quite fun."
Both Xiao Yeyang and Yan Wenxiu looked at Daohua with a hint of helplessness in their eyes.
After a brief silence, Xiao Yeyang said, "Alright, it’s getting late. Let’s head back." He then led the way toward the palace.
Su Hongxin glanced at Daohua, walked up to her, and smiled. "Sister Yan, you’re something. Your thoughts are truly surprising." After saying that, he quickly ran off to catch up.
Daohua furrowed her brow in confusion and turned to Dong Yuanxuan.
Dong Yuanxuan smiled, weighing his words. "Don’t worry, we’ll look into it." Then he too quickly walked away.
Daohua turned to her older brother, third brother, and fourth brother.
Her third and fourth brothers were just as confused as her, but her older brother gave her an exasperated look. "I’m writing to mother about this. She’s going to read what you just said, and she’ll see what kind of nonsense you’re talking!"
Daohua quickly apologized. "Brother, I’m sorry. I was just startled and didn’t think before speaking."
Yan Wenxiu frowned, thinking about the reactions from Xiao Yeyang and the others. "Are you sure you’re not mistaken?"
Daohua wasn’t sure anymore either.
It was just that Xiao Yeyang and Dong Yuanxuan’s reactions were too strange.
She muttered, "But those three did fake fainting to trick us! Who has nothing better to do than fake fainting to deceive people?"
Yan Wenxiu paused for a moment, then said, "Don’t worry. There’s probably nothing to it. I’ll ask about it."
"We’ll ask too," Yan Wenkai said as he grabbed Yan Wentao and ran off.
In an instant, everyone had left.
Only Daohua, Zhou Jingwan, and Dong Yuanyao remained.
"This is strange, there’s something fishy about this!" Daohua rubbed her chin, looking at the retreating figures of Xiao Yeyang and the others, her expression full of certainty.
"How could it be strange?" Zhou Jingwan asked, confused.
Seeing that they were about to continue discussing it, Dong Yuanyao quickly changed the subject. "Sister Yan, I heard from Jingwan that you’re selling that kind of lipstick rouge. I’d like to buy a stick. It sounds convenient to carry around."
Hearing this, Daohua had no choice but to put her doubts aside. She turned and said, "No need to buy it. If you like it, Sister Dong, I’ll give you one."
Dong Yuanyao didn’t refuse and smiled. "Then I’ll thank you in advance."
Daohua smiled back. "You’re welcome." Seeing that Xiao Yeyang and the others had already walked far, she quickly said, "Alright, let’s catch up. It’s about time we head back."
